Abstract

A Tolyposporium smut was observed at Tifton, Georgia in a breeding block of pearl millet, Pennisetum glaucum, for the first time in September 1962. The fungus is tentatively identified as T.penicillariae. This is the first record of this disease in the United States. The disease was perhaps introduced into this country as a contaminant on pearl millet seed introductions.
