Abstract
The problems associated with the presence of tannin in sorghum grain have been getting a lot of attention in recent years. The human preference for low tannln grain as food has been know for some tlrne. More recently tannin has been discovered to be responsible for certain problems observed when "bird resistant" grain is used in feed for monogastric animals: e.g. slower growth rate, lower protein utilization, lower feed efficiency, and bone abnormalities in the legs of chickens, The response has increasingly been to breed and grow mainly low tannin varietfes
