Abstract

In those parts of the world where bird depredation is a frequent problem encountered by sorghum growers, higher yields are generally possible when high tannin (bird resistant) sorghums are grown. This can be especially important for the small farmer who lives in an area where migrating flocks of birds may arrive and destroy nearly his entire crop. If the welfare of his family is dependent to a considerable extent on the grain expected from that one field, the farrner is likely to resist planting any improved grain which is not bird resistant. In this case yield stability is of more importance than total average yield
