Abstract

The clonal populations of 37 hybrids from crosses between Pennisetum purpureum and P. typhoides were evaluated during different seasons in the same year. Significant differences between hybrids were observed for yield of green fodder, plant height, tiller number, stem thickness and leaf number. Genetic variability was high in nine populations and the expected progress from selection was high for eight populations. However, only three hybrids were higher yielding than the standard hybrid NB21
