Abstract

Laboratory and field studies were carried out in Bangalore, Karnataka, India, in 1971-72 on the activity and habits of the sorghum pest Contarinia sorghicola (Coq.). The pre-mating period lasted 30-80 min, and the oviposition period was spread over the entire life of the female after mating. No post-oviposition period was observed. A single female laid an average of 31.13 eggs. Adults did not feed on either water or sucrose solution. The ratio of males to females was 1:12.5 in the field but varied from 1:1.70 to 1:2.05 in the laboratory
