Abstract

Grain tannin content was evaluated ten to 60 days after anthesis in four bird-resistant hybrids grown in the field from an early and a late planting. Grain tannin content was also evaluated ten to 45 days after anthesis in one hybrid grown in the greenhouse under four water stress treatments and two high temperature treatments. The tannin accumulation pattern was significantly different depending on hybrids and planting dates. Tannin content of grain shaded by paper bags during development was about half that of the unbagged grain and the response to shading was significantly different among hybrids.
