Abstract

A collection comprising 15 Indian varieties, 12 Indian inbreds, 10 African varieties and 11 American inbreds was studied over two years. Data are tabulated for correlations between yield on the one hand and grain size, height, tiller number, vegetative period and earing span on the other. The data are provided for each year and on the basis of grouping by genetical type or region of origin or both combined. The results obtained, especially those pertaining to height, earing span and tiller number, indicate that grouping on a genetic basis is useful, but to obtain the most comprehensive and critical information regarding character association the grouping should be on a combined genetical and geographical basis.
