Abstract
Catches of Chilo partellus (Swinh.) in light-traps and suction traps in a grain-sorghum field in the northern Transvaal, South Africa, in 1973-75 showed that adults were present throughout the year and that there were two main flight periods, one in spring and one in late summer. Studies of field-collected pupae showed that the sex ratio was 1:1, that size and mass were positively correlated with the number of egg cells in the ovaries of females, that moths collected after the piping stage of sorghum were more fecund than at any other time during the season, and that the relation between mass and fecundity was influenced by the time of year during which the moths had developed
