Abstract

Economic injury levels of infestations by Atherigona soccata Rond. on sorghum (of the varieties CSH 1, CSH 5 and Swarna) were estimated in field-plot tests in India in 1973-76 [see preceding abstract] on the basis of the cost of seed treatment with 5% carbofuran and in-furrow soil treatment with disulfoton granules. The gain threshold values resulting from control by the 2 treatments were calculated as 1.33 and 3.37 q/ha, respectively. Infestation levels resulting in loss in yield equal to the gain threshold values, calculated from statistically estimated yield-infestation equations, gave the economic injury levels for each year and variety. The results showed that the economic injury levels on CSH 1, CSH 5 and Swarna were 3.8-9.6, 3.4-8.5 and 5.9-15.0%, respectively; the higher values in each case pertained to protection given by the more expensive disulfoton treatmen
