Abstract
Field tests were carried out at Rahuri, Maharashtra, India, in 1976-77 to evaluate the resistance of 45 and 27 hybrids and varieties of sorghum to Atherigona soccata Rond. in the kharif and rabi seasons, respectively. In kharif, the entries VCC-2-23 and IS 8315 were the least preferred for oviposition, whereas CSH-1 was the most preferred. In rabi, IS 4705 and M 35-1 were the least preferred and 2077-B the most. The minimum percentage of dead hearts occurred in M 35-1, IS 8315, IS 4705, SPV-86 and M 47-3 during kharif and M 35-1, IS 8315 and IS 4705 during rabi, while the maximum percentage occurred in CSH-1 in both seasons. Entries that grew vigorously and had narrow and pale-green leaves were the least preferred for oviposition. There was a correlation between the number of eggs laid and percentage damage
