Abstract

The sorghum shoot fly, Atherigon asoccata is a major pest of midseason plantings of short season varieties of sorghum in Nigeria. Yield reduction can be as high as 78%. The magnitude 0f attack becomes more severe if sowing is delayed. However, early planting of short season varieties leads to mid-seasun ripening of the grains which delays drying and therefore increase the chances of grain infection by mould
