Abstract

Characteristics for separating the four biotypes (A, B, C, and D) of the greenbug, Sckizaphis grurinum (Rondani), are discussed, including morphological differences and responae to resirtant varieties and insecticides. Techniques for culturing preenbugs on caged plants in the greenhouse are described. In addition, methods are suggeeted for mreaning for plant resiritance both in the greenhouse and in the field. Sources of plant resistance to the greenbug are liated. Culturing techniques for both primary and aecondary parmitoids are covered. Difficulties that may be encountered are discussed for all phases of rearing antl rcreening. KEYWORDS: biotypes, Charipr, pccnbug, Lysiphlcbw tatacriw, plant p t resistance, primary pnrssitoidr.
