Abstract
The effect of larval and adult age of Coccinella septempunctata L. and population density of the prey Rhopalosiphum maidis (Fitch) on the rate of predation was determined in laboratory studies in India. Predator larvae from 1 to 9 days old consumed 5.89, 11.22, 15.74, 18.22, 19.44, 40.25, 40.66, 40.16 and 32.50 aphids/day, respectively, and adults from 1 to 9 days old consumed 6.67, 13.44, 15.67, 16.89, 17.22, 41.50, 42.08, 43.40 and 30.25 aphids/day. Average predation rate by both larvae and adults also increased with prey density
