Abstract
A survey was conducted in the Puri District of Orissa, India, from August 1975 to July 1976 on aphidophagous insects on aphid-infested sorghum, maize, pulse, egg-plant, mustard and cole crops. The following predators were found: larvae and adults of Coccinella arcuata F., C. repanda Thnb., C. septempunctata L., Illeis cincta (F.), Menochilus sexmaculatus (F.), Scymnus castaneus Sic. (Pullus castaneus), S. guimeti Muls. (P. guimeti), Micraspis discolor (F.) (Verania discolor), M. vincta (Gorham) (V. vincta) and Micromus timidus Hagen, and larvae of Allograpta javana (Wied.), Episyrphus balteatus (Deg.), a species of Eumerus near E. albifrons Wlk., Ischiodon scutellaris (F.). Sphaerophoria indiana Big., Chrysopa orestes Banks and an unidentified species of Chloropidae. Coccinellids were the commonest group, followed closely by syrphids. In studies on the feeding rates of the various predators on Melanaphis sacchari (Zhnt.) (Longiunguis sacchari), larvae of I. scutellaris consumed the most, followed by adults of Coccinella repanda, adults of Menochilus sexmaculatus and larvae of the species of Eumerus
