Abstract

Three male-sterile Pennisetum typhoides lines were crossed with 17 inbreds, and significant interactions were found between male steriles and inbreds for the five characters studied. Correlations between F1 performance and inbred performance suggest that any of the male-sterile lines should be effective for evaluating combining ability for ear length and thickness in inbreds. For grain yield and number of days to flowering, the value of inbreds could only be predicted from progeny of the male-sterile L67A.
