Abstract
Results of trials with 2 P. typhoides [= P. americanum] hybrids conducted for 2 seasons to investigate the effect of shading and defoliation on grain yield and its attributes, showed that a reduction in the photosynthetic surface area either by shading or defoliation at anthesis caused reductions in grain number/ear, grain size, rate of grain development and the final grain yield almost in proportion to the reduction in leaf area
