Abstract
Data on protein percentage, 100-grain weight, dye binding capacity (DBC), DBC/unit protein and protein/grain were recorded for 2 released varieties, 2 high-lysine Ethiopian lines, 1 high-lysine Purdue mutant, 3 plump and 3 shrivelled-grained derivatives from cross combinations of Ethiopian high-lysine sorghums, and F1s, F2s, BCF1s and BCF2s from crosses with the mutant P721. Cross combinations were identified which should allow simultaneous improvement of protein quantity and quality. To improve protein content, it is recommended that parents be selected for high protein-synthesizing ability. Identification of high-lysine lines might be aided by use of DBC/unit protein
