Abstract
A diallel cross of nine inbred lines was made and observations recorded on plant height, ear number per plant, ear length, ear girth, grain yield and grain protein content. Statistical analyses showed that the inheritance of grain yield and ear number was controlled mainly by genes showing dominance and epistasis whereas for ear length and girth, plant height and protein content, both additive and dominance components were significant. Heritability was highest for ear length followed by ear girth and lowest for grain yield.
