Abstract

Tolyposporium ehrenbergii (KOHN) PAT., the cause of Long smut of Sorghum in Egypt, attacks the ears and no other parts of the plant. The sori develop in the kernels. Long smut increases year after year in Egypt although the damage is not so severe. In other countries the disease becomes epidemic in some years. Some kernels in the ear are infected and finally exhibit the characteristic sori of the fungus
