Abstract
Incidence of Macrophomina phaseolina was 0-49.77% in the cv. CSH-8R and 7.4-61.54% in SPV-86. A significantly negative correlation was obtained between the percentage of affected plants and both grain and fodder yield in both cultivars. Regression equations showed that for each 1% increase in disease there was a reduction in grain yield of 0.0445 and 0.3159 kg/plot and fodder yield of 0.0595 and 0.0614 kg/plot in CSH-8R and SPV-86 respectively. The greater reduction in fodder yield would be expected as the disease causes hollowing of the stem.
