Abstract
During 1981-82 approximately 50 cultivars of sweet sorghum were evaluated for their potential to produce sugar and to serve as raw materials for the production of energy in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Mer 75-10 and Mer 80-10 merit consideration as sugar and ethanol sources because of their intermediate yields of millable stalks and their high juice quality. MN 1500 continues to show promise as a candidate for the generation of electricity through combustion because of Its high millable stalk yield though it has low juice quality
