Abstract

Research on the possibilities of stepping up yields of sorghum by exploitation of hybrid vigour was initiated at the Millets and Pulses Breeding Station, Coimbatore in 1959 monsoon season. In determining the extent of heterosis, detailed studies were made on the vigour, yield and yield components with a view to get at reliable data which will be ultimately helpful in the correct evaluation of the grains each of the different components that are correlated with the yield characteristics
