Abstract

The inheritance of two previously unreported traits of Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench was determined, and gene symbols were assigned. White stripe which develops on terminal leaves on a mutant in ‘Norkan’ (SA 357) was found to be controlled by a single recessive gene (ws ws). No striking indication of maternal cytoplasmic effects was detected. Rolled leaf, a condition typical of ‘Hoefling's Dwarf White Durra’ (SA 30), was also inherited as a single-gene recessive (rl rl), in crosses to SA 5330. The trait is modified by other genes, as shown in crosses to Tx3197.
