Abstract

Meiosis was studied in two accessions of D. bicornis, one accession of D. eriostachya, one accession of D. swazilandensis and two accessions of D. glauca. The first three species showed normal meiotic behaviour whilst abnormal behaviour was noted in the two D. glauca accessions. D. eriostachya (2n = 54) and D. glauca (2n = 45 and 39) were studied cytologically and a new chromosome number (2n = 54) was found in D. swazilandensis. In earlier studies, a chromosome number of 2n = 18 was reported for D. swazilandensis [See PBA 20, 972].
