Abstract
Field tests were carried out in India in 1978-79 to evaluate the effectiveness of the seed soaking technique for the control of Atherigona soccata Rond. on sorghum. A total of 18 systemic and non-systemic insecticides was used. The results indicated that use of the technique is feasible provided formulations are developed that do not adversely affect germination and efficacy lasts for at least 3 weeks; it was thought that the latter could be achieved by increasing the insecticide concentration or duration of soaking. The most promising insecticides tested were methidathion, trichlorfon and monocrotophos
