Abstract

Advanced generation material (F3, F4 and BCF3) from crosses involving Atherigona soccata-resistant and agronomically superior cultivars was evaluated. F3 material was the most variable and F4 the least so for egg count/plant and dead heart percentage. BCF3 material was relatively more resistant. Five BCF3 progenies, one F3 progeny and 3 F4 progenies were more resistant than the highly resistant parent IS5604 while 11 BCF3s, 2 F3s and 17 F4s were more resistant than the commercial variety M35-1. Broad-sense heritability was about 30%
