Abstract

Observations were made in Maharashtra, India, on the comparative incidence of Atherigona soccata Rond. on sorghum sown on 5 different dates 10 days apart, and at seed application rates of 8, 10 or 12 kg/ha. Statistical analysis of the results showed that the numbers of deadhearts were significantly lower on sorghum sown at the end of June or in early July than on sorghum sown at the end of July, but that there was no significant difference between deadheart numbers on plants from seed sown at different rates. Egg counts on infested plants confirmed that fewer eggs were laid on the crops sown earlier
