Abstract
Louisiana sugarcane growers normally grow three crops of sugarcane from the original planting. Several years ago approximately one-half the entire acreage of sugarcane in Louisiana was so heavily infested with Johnson grass (Sorghum halepense) that the 3 year crop piactice was not economical. The plant cane crop and first stubble crop was grown and harvested and then the land was plowed several times in the summer before replanting in the fall
