Abstract

In pot experiments with Eleusine coracana (ragi) and tomato on a calcareous red soil, N applications generally increased the uptake of all nutrients. This effect, which was more pronounced in tomato, was attributable to an increase in root CEC. In ragi (low CEC plant), the uptake of applied K was greater than in tomato (high CEC plant).
