Abstract
Total biomass, seed yield and vegetative (Dv) and reproductive (Dr) period durations were recorded in 120 chickpea genotypes and the crop growth rates (C) and partitioning to seed (p) estimated. The contribution of variations in C, Dr, and p to variations in seed yield were analysed by regression techniques. Variations in C were an important source of yield variation, more so than variations in p and Dr; C was inversely related to Dr and p.
