Abstract

Results of a study of isogenic lines of Japanese Dwarf broomcorn (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) that differed only in the dominanto r recessive allele of the Dw3 height gene are reported. Testcrosses positively identified the revertant allel as dw3. The state of the Dw3 gene influenced main head yield; tiller yield; total yield; test weight; kernels per head; heads per plant; grams per 1,000 kenels; length, width, and area of the fourth leaf blade; and head length as well as culm height. Node number was not aftected, indicating that maturity was not influenced. The study was conducted under three environments; significant environment X height interactions were found for main head yield, tiller yield, total yield, test weight, heads per plant, grams per 1,000 kernels, width of the fourth leaf blade, culm height, culm diameter of the fourth internode, head length, and days to 90% bloom.
