Abstract
Although sorghum i s probably the major cereal o f summer-rainfall, semi-arid regions, millet and maize are also widely grown; millet because of its lower total rainfall requirement and greater drought resistance, maize because of dietary preference and its resistance to bird attaok. Bch of these crops responds differently to drought stress; and it was felt that a comparison of all three gmwn side by side over a range of populations and row-spacirq would broaden the team's experience and perhaps provide insights relevant to the rnore detailed sorghum work.
