Abstract

The authors discuss the components of management for arthropod pests of field maize and grain sorghum in the USA. The pests of maize dealt with include Heliothis zea (Boddie), Ostrinia nubilalis (Hb.), Diabrotica spp., Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith), Diatraea grandiosella Dyar, Agrotis ipsilon (Hfn.), Tetranychus urticae Koch and Oligonychus pratensis (Banks), and those of sorghum Contarinia sorghicola (Coq.), Schizaphis graminum (Rond.), Spodoptera frugiperda, H. zea, Nola sorghiella (Ril.) (Celama sorghiella), T. urticae and O. pratensis. Control of these major pests relies, for the most part, on conventional pesticides. The development of alternative methods of control is discussed
