Abstract

Three trials were carried out to evaluate chemicals for the control of the sweetpotato weevil, Cylasformicarius (Fab.). Foliar sprays of either fenthion or formothion significantly reduced weevil damage to tubers. A VIne dIp of DDT and a soil treatment using furathiocarb, failed to reduce damage. Six sprays offenthion (0.15 % equivalent to 0.75 kg ai/ha) applied at at intervals of28 days from 14 days after planting proved the most cost effective means of weevil control
