Abstract
Seedlings of a hybrid and its parents of Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench were examined from emergence through the four leaf stage for photosynthetic efficiency. Seedling root components were included in the analysis. Significant heterosis occurred for leaf area, total dry weight, and for rate of development, but significant heterosis was not exhibited for root/shoot ratios, net assimilation rate (NAR), or total dry matter/leaf area ratios. These results indicate that heterosis is not present for photosynthetic efficiency as measured by NAR in these hybrid sorghum seedlings
