Abstract
Field screening of several sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L) Moench] lines and F1 hybrids showed adult plant resistance to Biotype C Schizaphis graminum (Rondani). Sorghum lines IS 809, KS 30, and SA 7536-1 in general were significantly less infested with greenbugs than susceptible lines Tx 7000 and Tx 2536. F1 hybrids of resistant ✕ susceptible lines showed similar results when compared with susceptible NB 505. Resistant sorghums appeared only to affect beneficial insect abundance by reducing the number of their prey. Greenbug populations found on resistant SA 7536-1, PI 264453, KS 30, or IS 809 sorghums were not reflected in the amount of leaf damage. That is, these sorghums, especially KS 30 and IS 809, were not damaged as severely by greenbugs as Tx 7000 and Tx 2536. Resistant types did not influence nymphal duration; however, IS 809 did significantly influence fecundity
