Abstract

In field trials on deep alluvial soil (Ustochrept) in Jalandhar, Uttar Pradesh in 1990/91, the effects of Zn, Cu and Fe were studied in potatoes cv. Kufri Chandramukhi. Trials on 16 fields compared soil application of 25 kg ZnSO4/ha with 2 foliar sprays of 0.2% ZnSO4, while on 12 fields soil application of 50 kg ferrous sulfate or 2 foliar sprays of 0.2% ferrous sulfate were compared, and on 13 fields 15 kg CuSO4 or foliar application of 0.2% CuSO4 were compared. The response to soil or foliar application of trace elements was generally similar. The critical deficiency limits for potatoes were calculated to be 0.75 mg/kg soil of DTPA-Zn, 0.32 mg/kg soil of DTPA-Cu and 6.6 mg/kg soil of DTPA-Fe
