Abstract

Field studies were conducted in Madhya Pradesh, India, during the 2002 and 2004 kharif seasons, to optimize the productivity of sesame with the use of different organic inputs. Results showed that an application of recommended dose of NPK through fertilizers along with 20 kg S/ha without any plant protection measure produced maximum seed (749 kg/ha) and oil (400 kg/ha) yields with the maximum net monetary return of Rs 11 400/ha and B:C ratio of 2.43. Application of 100% organics [3.75 t FYM + 900 kg neem cake + 75 kg ash + 75 kg bone meal + 20 kg ELS + 5 kg PSB (soil application) + 5 kg Azotobacter/ha + Trichoderma viride (0.04%) seed treatment + neem oil spray (thrice at 15, 30 and 45 DAS) + spray of Azadirachtin (0.03%) at 30 DAS] gave comparable seed and oil yields to the above treatments, but it was less remunerative with regard to NMR and B:C ratio. The plant nutrition with 2.5 t FYM + 250 kg gypsum + 20 kg rock pen/ha + PSB + Azotobacter (a), a + seed treatment with Trichoderma viride, a + seed treatment and foliar spray of Trichoderma viride and a + seed treatment with Trichoderma viride + neem oil spray being at par with each other for seed yield proved the next best with regard to seed and oil yields and monetary advantages
