Abstract

The effects of pigeon pea (cv. BSMR-736) and sorghum (cv. CSH-14) as intercrops on the yield of soyabean (cultivars JS-335 and PK-1029) were studied in Gadhinglaj, Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, India, during the rainy seasons of 2001, 2002 and 2003. The soyabean:intercrop ratio was 3:1. Pooled data showed that among the intercropping systems, soyabean (cv. JS-335) + pigeon pea resulted in the highest soyabean equivalent yield (41.60 quintal/ha), gross monetary return (37 446 rupees/ha), net monetary return (21 170 rupees/ha) and land equivalent ratio (1.33). [1.0 quintal=100.0 kg]
