Abstract
The effects of land configuration and fertilizer (N, P and K) rates on the productivity of maize hybrids were studied in Parbhani, Maharashtra, India, during the kharif of 2003 and 2004. Maize hybrid Kargil recorded significantly higher grain yield (68.50 quintal ha-1) than Parbhani Shakti (59.31 quintal ha-1). The net monetary returns and benefit:cost ratio were higher for Kargil. The opening of furrow in every row at 30 days after sowing (DAS) resulted in 13.76% higher yield than the flat bed method. The application of higher levels of fertilizers (150:75:50 kg N, P2O5 and K2O ha-1) recorded the highest grain yield (69.08 quintal ha-1) and benefit:cost ratio (2.19). The combination between opening the furrow in every row and application of 150:75:50 kg NPK ha-1 for Kargil was optimum for obtaining higher yields and net returns. [1.0 quintal=100.0 kg]
