Abstract
An experiment was conducted at Agricultural College Farm, Raichur, Karnataka, India during rabi 2006. Treatments consisted of three pop sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) genotypes (G1: Yadgir local; G2: Talkal; and G3: Shiggaon local) in main plots and five nutrient levels (N0: control; N1: 50% RDF; N2: 75% RDF; N3: 100% RDF; and N4: 125% RDF) in subplots. Significantly higher grain and stover yields were recorded in Shiggaon local (60.63 q/ha and 7.96 t/ha) compared to Yadgir local (51.79 q/ha and 6.98 t/ha), but they were at par with those of genotype Talkal (56.10 q/ha and 7.52 t/ha). Significantly higher grain and stover yields were recorded with the application of 125% RDF (61.55 q/ha and 8.45 t/ha, respectively) compared to 75% RDF (56.03 q/ha and 7.52 t/ha, respectively). Furthermore, application of 100% RDF (11.32 q/ha and 8.03 t/ha, respectively) was at par with 125% RDF. Yield attributing characters ear head length (cm), number of grains per ear, grain weight per ear (g) and test weight (g) were highest in Shiggaon local, significantly higher than that recorded by Yadgir local, but it was at par with Talkal. Among the different nutrient levels, application of 125% RDF recorded significantly highest earhead length (22.72 cm), number of grains per ear (949.44), grain weight per ear (22.78 g) and test weight (21.63 g) among the treatments. Among the genotypes, gross (Rs. 15 280/ha) and net returns (Rs. 10 338/ha) and B:C ratio (2.09) were highest in Shiggaon local. Treatment with 125% RDF recorded the highest gross and net returns (Rs. 15 955 and 10 448/ha, respectively). Treatment with 100% RDF had the highest B:C ratio (1.92) among the nutrient levels
