Abstract

A method of rapid conidial production in D. [Pyrenophora] teres is described. Sporulation was best on detached barley leaves incubated with 80 p.p.m. benzimidazole under near-UV light or in darkness, with no aerial hyphae, leaf chlorosis or necrosis developing in the dark. Conidia were not produced on PDA in the dark but formed under near-UV light. Spores produced on leaves were as infective as those produced on PDA
