Abstract

An experiment was conducted in Patancheru, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, during 1996 and 1997 on sorghum hybrids of 20 cytoplasmic-male steriles, six restorers, and parentals to evaluate for leaf blight (Exserohilum turcicum [Setosphaeria turcica]) disease resistance parameters. Based on the disease damage score, cluster analysis identified four major clusters corresponding to the disease reaction exhibited by the parents and the hybrids. Of the four clusters, Cluster I was considered to be the most important cluster as the progeny was resistant irrespective of the disease reaction of the parents involved. The hybrids MS 11 × R 3 and MS 9 × R 3 involving resistant- and moderately-resistant parents exhibited a hypersensitive reaction
