Abstract
The development of the floral bud in yam-bean cv. Kharagpur Local, Pusa Local and Amraoti IC 13079-A was identical, but the size of the bud before opening differed among the cultivars. Flowering commenced 58-68 days after sowing and lasted for 92-103 days. The flowers opened between 0510 and 0625 h, were fully opened by 0830 h and closed between 10.00 and 1130 h next day. The anthers dehisced between 1745 and 2215 h. The stigma became receptive 12 h before flower opening and remained receptive for 18 h after opening. The pollen grains remained viable for 22 h at room temperature (22.5 deg C) and r.h. 62%.
