Abstract
The pigeon pea, Cajanus cajan Millsp., ranks fifth in importance among edible legumes of the world. It is discussed in this review under the headings: nomenclature, origin and distribution; description; production, trade and economic value; variables and cultivars; horticultural requirements; pests and diseases; and food and other uses. Figures are presented for composition of variously prepared seeds with respect to nutrient content.
