Abstract
This paper analyses the economic and ecological conditions under which it is optimal and not optimal to attempt eradication of an invasive species whose natural growth and spread is subject to environmental disturbances. It is shown that the growth of the invasion corresponding to the disturbance that leads to slowest expansion plays a critical role. The paper characterizes how the outcome depends on the distribution of environmental disturbances, the discount rate, the marginal damages from the invasion, and the marginal costs of control
