Abstract

Fifty four interspecific derivative (ICGV) lines and six recombinant inbred lines (RILs) along with six checks were evaluated at MARS, Dharwad and Botanical Garden (GPB), UAS, Dharwad during rabi/summer and kharif seasons respectively during 2012 for yield and yield components and disease resistance. High genetic variability was observed for major yield contributing characters like secondary branches, primary branch height, number of pods/plant, pod yield (kg/ha), harvest index, disease incidence at harvest, disease severity and spread irrespective of their seasons. The High heritability was observed for days to maturity, days to flowering commencement, days to 50% flowering, protein and oil content, plant height, secondary branches, primary branch height, pod beak, pod constriction, pod reticulation, number of secondary branches/plant, pod yield (kg/ha), percent disease incidence at harvest, disease spread, disease severity, shelling per cent, kernel yield, per cent of sound mature kernels, test weight, and harvest index in both seasons. Superior genotypes were identified for major yield attributing characters along with disease resistance and the same can be used in future groundnut improvement programmes.
