Abstract
The importance of water in meeting the growing day-to-day demands from the three main sectors in India viz., domestic, agricultural, and industrial cannot be understated. This paper highlights the relationship between climate change and water availability relating to its supply and quality. The paper crisis of the water sector in India, with a special focus on the scenario in Maharashtra is also highlighted. It attempts to explain the reasons for the slow reforms in the water sector in the state. The paper also discusses ways in which the emerging crisis may be mitigated and the prospects for adaptation and change.
