Abstract
Agriculture plays an important role in the economic development of India. Agriculture and related sectors have contributed nearly 50% of India‘s national income. Agriculture has provided employment and livelihood to nearly 72% of rural working population. Indian agriculture depends upon weather, climatic conditions and natural variations. Green revolution has massively increased the production of food grains in India. Technological innovation in agricultural sector has increased its potentials. An attempt is made to study the nature of Indian agriculture, its upcoming challenges and recent issues of agricultural production. The article discusses some of the challenges faced by Indian Agricultural Sector such as poor socio-economic conditions, slow agricultural growth, lack of technology, etc. So it appears that the Indian agriculture, being at the crossroads is facing both unprecedented challenges and unparalleled opportunities.
