Abstract
A brief account is given on the situation of chickpea losses at different pre-harvest and postharvest chains in Dandi woreda and Ambo woreda of Oromia region. The recent developments in the field of chickpea production; losses in the field due to high shatter of the crop, losses during harvesting, losses during collection, losses during threshing by wooden stick or bullocks trample and losses during separation of the grain from chaff are briefly reviewed and analyzed. The necessity to use and develop modern tools for harvesting, collecting, threshing and sorting to reduce loss and control of different pests in chickpea is strongly recommended.
